This started around 10 a.m. Wednesday morning after Doug Mika, who lives on West 23rd Street in Lorain called police with his discovery.
"I found maybe
a hundred sticks of dynamite."
His friends encouraged him to call police.
When police arrived on scene Wednesday, they were shocked!
It was a powder
keg waiting to blow, made more dangerous with the passage of time.

At least 15
homes were evacuated. Doug Mika found the dynamite buried in his back yard
after he removed some old property.
"One theory is
the dynamite was used for stump removal back in the 1960s, so this neighborhood
could have literally been sitting on a powder keg for more than 50 years."
The bomb squad
used a robot to place the dynamite in the street where it was destroyed by
burning it with diesel fuel - slowly and thoroughly.
