PERKINS TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -
A Sandusky woman is facing child endangerment charges after leaving her children in a running car while shopping at Meijer Monday.
Perkins Township police responded to a call of children left in a vehicle at Meijer on U.S. Route 250 in Erie County.
According to Meijer employee Dorothy Palmer, who reported the incident, an employee gathering shopping carts in the parking lot heard the rev of an engine several times. When she looked inside the Honda minivan, she saw a small child walking around inside, playing with the gas pedal. She also saw a younger child in a car seat. The two girls are 10 months old and 4 years old.
Palmer confronted the driver and stopped her from leaving by saying police were coming.
Driver Amber Willis, 31, of Sandusky, said she came to Meijer to buy cupcakes and realized she made a bad decision by leaving her children unattended in her car.
Surveillance video revealed the kids were left alone in the car for seven minutes.
