(WOIO)- The Cavaliers have joined the Dallas Mavericks as a prime contender to sign free-agent center Andrew Bynum according to ESPN. The Cavs are a legitimate front-runner to sign Bynum if the Philadelphia 76ers center is willing to sign a one-year deal.
Reports are that the Cavaliers will not offer more than a one-year deal to Bynum to maintain their projected salary-cap space in the summer of 2014. That is when they are expected to pursue free-agent LeBron James.
The Mavericks are also pursuing Bynum since Dwight Howard's decision to sign with the Houston Rockets. Bynum's bad knees cost him to miss all of last season with the 76ers. Bynum is 25 years old.
