FINDLAY, OH (Toledo News Now) -
A brief police chase ended with an accident Monday morning in Findlay.
Police say they were investigating a hit and run accident that happened just before 8 a.m. at Center Street and North Main Street when they spotted the runaway vehicle a few blocks away. Police say the 1992 Ford Ranger truck described by the hit and run victim was seen running a stop sign at the intersection of West Lima Street and South Cory Street just after 8 a.m.
Police say the driver took off north on Cory Street before turning left into an ally between West Lincoln Street and West Lima Street. Police say the chase continued at 40 to 50 miles per hour down the alley, before the driver turned left on to Western Avenue. The driver then attempted to turn left onto Joy Avenue, but lost control and crashed into a utility pole, according to police.
Christopher M. Peters, 24 of Findlay, was arrested and charged with fleeing and eluding a police officer, failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead, leaving the scene of an accident on street, driving under suspension and possession of marijuana drug paraphernalia.
Peters is being held in the Hancock County Justice Center.
