The signs, cones and barrels are up at Secor Road and Central Avenue, as crews are tearing up the intersection in west Toledo to rebuild it from the ground up.
"For the next two weeks, this intersection, which hasn't had a lot of work, is now being reconstructed completely," said Robin Whitney, Toledo Engineering Services commissioner.
Whitney says the intersection will be closed to through traffic, with only right hand turns permitted. However, that does not stop some drivers from trying to take shortcuts through the work zone.
"What's happening is people are coming up and making U-turns in the middle of the street, or cutting through private property. It's causing a lot of disruption and a lot of safety concerns," said Whitney.
Drivers are urged to do all they can to make it a safe work zone.
"Semis can't make these right turns - they're too tight - and we think even the TARTA buses. So we're wanting to make sure buses and semis are staying away from this intersection altogether," said Whitney.
For business owners in the area, including Sandy Sack with Schramm's Flowers, it's another bump in the road.
"When it got real bad, people just sort of ignored the whole area. Then it opened back up and things started happening again. Now it's slowed down again," said Sack.
Sack does see light at the end of the tunnel.
"The project is almost done and we're very excited for the project to be done," said Sack. "It's going to be awesome when it's done."
According to Whitney, after the intersection work is complete, the portion of Secor Road being reconstructed will receive one final coat of asphalt. She anticipates the project will wrap up in August.
