Lucas County neighborhoods will soon see new bicycles on their streets in a new effort to keep mosquitos under control.
The Toledo Area Sanitary District recently purchased two mosquito control bikes and necessary accessories. They will be used throughout the county to spray catch basins.
"Mosquitos that transmit West Nile Virus breed in catch basins and artificial containers," explained Mike Bruce, garage manager. "So, to spray the catch basins is very important."
The goal is to save tax payer dollars by doubling the work and saving on fuel. Both bikes and accessories were purchased for less than $1,500.
Bruce says the bikes will hit the streets as soon as there is some dry weather.
