TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

According to dispatchers, there was a gas line break at Central and Upton avenues in west Toledo Wednesday morning. The intersection has since reopened.

Columbia Gas and Toledo Fire and Rescue crews were on the scene working to repair the 4-inch gas line. Fire Lt. Matthew Hertzfeld says the gas line break happened at the same area where a gas line was damaged by contractors working on Interstate 475 in the spring.

A contractor working on I-475 at Upton damaged the gas main around 9 a.m. Columbia Gas crews were able to bypass the leak without shutting off gas service to customers. However, people in three homes nearby were asked to leave while work was under way.

As of 1 p.m., the Ohio Department of Transportation says Central Avenue between Jackman Road and Upton Avenue has reopened.
