One Toledo student will find it a little easier to pay for college, thanks to the work she has done to help others.
Faith Mitchell, 18, has been named a winner in the Kohl's Cares Scholarship Program, which honors about 200 students nationwide for making a positive impact in their community. Mitchell was chosen from more than 35,000 nominees.
After teaching and mentoring students at her school for a couple of years, Mitchell created Faith, Hope and Love Tutoring to help at-risk kids with their schoolwork. She used her own money to purchase workbooks, novels, flashcards and other supplies. Mitchell spent more than 1,500 hours tutoring students.
Mitchell will receive a $1,000 scholarship, and will also be eligible to win one of ten national scholarships. National scholarship winners receive $10,000, and Kohl's will donate $1,000 to a nonprofit organization in the name of each winner.
