The deadline has passed for those wanting to run in this year's Toledo mayoral and at-large council elections.
Seven candidates filed petitions in hopes of becoming Toledo's next mayor. Mike Bell is running for re-election, while Anita Lopez, Mike Collins, Joe McNamara, Alan Cox, Mike Kronwinski and Opal Covey are challenging. Don Gozdowski has declared himself to be a write-in candidate.
Eighteen candidates filed for the council race: incumbents Steve Steel, Adam Martinez and Rob Ludeman, Shaun Enright, who was appointed to the seat vacated by Phil Copeland, Sandy Spang, Bill Delaney, Ron Johns, Theresa Gabriel, Ernest McCarthy, Alfonso Navarez, Sean Nestor, James Nowak, Jack Ford, Joshua Fowler, Larry Sykes, James Martin, Joseph Celusta, and Alex Rivera.
Lucas County Board of Elections staffers will now verify petition signatures to certify candidates for the September primary election.
The top 12 candidates in the council race, and the top two in the mayoral race will move on to the November election.
