A kayaker who capsized in the water on Friday night was rescued by Monroe County deputies responding to another call.
Around 8 p.m., Monroe County Sheriff's were at Dubar Quarry, on Dunbar Road, for a Public Peace complaint. They saw a kayaker in the middle of the quarry capsize and enter the water.
Shortly after, the kayaker started to sink. Deputies heard the male kayaker screaming for help and saw him struggling to stay afloat.
Deputies responded immediately, using a nearby boat to perform a water rescue. Deputy Michael McClain paddled about 300 yards out to the victim, saving the man's life.
A second boat took both McClain and the victim safely back to shore.
The victim, a 25-year-old man from Monroe, Michigan, was evaluated by medical workers at the scene then released without injuries.
