Crews are investigating the cause of a fire at a Mount Washington apartment building.
The fire broke out around 2:00 a.m. Tuesday morning on Beechmont Avenue.
Cincinnati emergency crew received several calls from occupants stating that there was smoke in the building.
Crews arriving on the scene reported a working fire, which appeared to be coming from the basement of the building. Crews aggressively fought the fire and were able to put out the flames within 20 minutes.
Three basement units suffered heavy smoke and water damage.
Everyone was able to safely escape the building. However, the family's cat perished in the flames.
Two families have been displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross. Damage has been estimated at $50,000.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
