BBB Alert: Youth targeted with payday loan scam

Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

It isn't just seniors who get scammed. Young people are cheated, too.

A popular scam circulating right now is the "Payday Loan" racket. The Better Business Bureau of Toledo had seven victims call within a week who had money stolen by scammers.

Dick Eppstein, president of Toledo's BBB, says the con artists call with "good news" about you being approved for a payday loan, but then they ask for $250 to $400 to secure your loan. They also request your bank account number.

Instead of depositing a loan in your bank account, they take money out of your account.

Although the callers have a thick accent, they use names like Chris or Gary to trick you.

Eppstein wants to remind people of all ages to never give your bank account information to strangers.

To talk to the Better Business Bureau, call 419-531-3116 or 1-800-743-4222.
