TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

People in a south Toledo neighborhood are complaining about the slumping conditions on their street. A portion of Wright Avenue is slowly sinking down a hill just north of Nelson Avenue by Swan Creek.

David Majchrowski moved into his home on Wright Avenue nine years ago.

"That guardrail across the street was 2 foot above the street. There was no cave in at all," said Majchrowski.

Located at the top of an embankment overlooking Swan Creek, a portion of that street is down to one lane. Elliott Boggs says it's becoming a serious traffic safety issue.

"Back in front of my house is where it first all started. It's getting to the point where it's really hard for me to back out," said Boggs.

Majchrowski says he recently had a close call.

"I pulled out of my driveway with my truck in the wintertime, there was ice on the street and I slid right down in the hole there. Thank god a neighbor came down with his Jeep and pulled me out," said Majchrowski.

Toledo Streets, Bridges and Harbor Commissioner David Pratt says the city has committed $150,000 towards designing a long-term fix.

"The embankment has been slowly eroding away by the creek. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is working on a project right now. They're in the design phase of a project to improve that embankment to prevent further erosion," said Pratt.

Considering construction is still a few years away, neighbors want more than orange barrels put up to protect drivers.

"Anything to attempt to make the road a little better would help, besides the orange barrels," said Boggs.

Majchrowski agrees.

"If this was Mayor Bell's street, this would have been fixed years ago," he said.
