Four vehicles, one a Toledo Police cruiser, were involved in an accident on Berdan and Jackman roads in west Toledo.
The accident occurred just before 7 p.m. A TPD official says Lt. Frank Ramirez was responding to a call to back up another officer responding to a weapon's call.
The lieutenant had his lights and sirens on as he was driving through a red light at the intersection of Jackman and Berdan, but Samuel Leech, who was traveling eastbound on Berdan, failed to yield and hit the TPD vehicle, sending it into a pole and two parked vehicles.
Ramirez suffered some head injuries, but they are not life-threatening. Leech was cited for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
Sgt. Tony Gillen says this kind of accident occurs too often.
"Just yield to police when you hear lights and sirens. Move over to the right and stop," he said.
