Wood Co. Humane Society dealing with overcrowding

Posted: Updated:
WOOD COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Wood County Humane Society is overcrowded, so they're calling on county residents for help.

Every kennel is full at the shelter, where 130 animals are currently waiting for new homes.

County residents will be getting phone calls throughout the week, asking to purchase various items. A portion of the proceeds will help to take care of the animals and support shelter operations.

In addition, this month the shelter is running an adoption special: two kittens for the price of one. Employees say they always have more cats than dogs.

"We have about 60 kittens because it's that time of year," said Cassie Williams, an animal care worker at the shelter. "Our kennels in the back are full. We have 14 dogs right now and cats in foster care, so there's a lot of needy animals in this county."

The shelter is also in need of dedicated volunteers, and they're looking to hire someone to help publicize events and animals waiting for homes. For more information, visit their website here.
