MAUMEE, OH (Toledo News Now) -
For the second time in 24 hours, a water main break has shut down a major Maumee roadway.
Illinois Avenue is closed in the 500 block between Kingsbury Street and the entrance to The Andersons store, due to a break in a water main that ruptured Thursday morning.
City officials say once crews got on the scene, they found a split in the water line that was 4 feet long, sending water all over the area. Crews are currently accessing the leak and trying to piece together what exactly happened.
Maumee Director of Public Service Joe Camp says the roadway should partially reopen by 6 p.m. Thursday. Camp says one lane of traffic will open in each direction as crews continue to work repairing the water main.
A separate water main break closed the intersection of Conant Street and Illinois Avenue just before 5 p.m. Wednesday. According to city officials, the two breaks were not related at all.
