Deshler Fire Department gets loan from state

Posted: Updated:
DESHLER, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Residents in Deshler could soon see faster response times from the fire department thanks to a $300,000 loan from the state.

The money will be used to replace a fire engine from 1989. It still runs, but fire officials say it is out of date and not up to code.

The new engine will be safer for firefighters, and it will allow them to respond to fires in less time. It will also be equipped to fight ethanol fires.

"We needed more capabilities to fight the fires we were dealing with now, other than what we were dealing with 25 years ago," said Fire Chief Willis Croninger, Jr.

The state fire marshal says the state chose to award the loan to Deshler based on the number of runs they make and the age of their equipment.
