As a former hockey head coach at BGSU, Buddy Powers has had a front row seat to some of the most exciting moments in college hockey.
Still, not even the highest of highs could compare to what he saw today: being front and center to watch his daughter play in an LPGA event.
"This was something I think Caroline thought of for a long time," said Buddy. "And it was something her parents thought of, too."
Caroline just finished an incredible career at Michigan State. The family has seen her play in tournaments before, but the Marathon Classic was special because it's in the family's backyard.
Even Caroline was caught up in the excitement.
"I had so much extra adrenaline," she said. "It was awesome to see so many people from Bowling Green."
Buddy spent the afternoon watching his 22-year-old daughter struggle. It was a hot day at Highland Meadows and the heat, combined with added pressure of playing in front of friends and family, may have gotten to Caroline, who finished three over.
"I'll give her a hug and say ‘come back tomorrow and shoot three under,'" he said.
