Busy Ottawa Hills bridge reopens after 45 days

OTTAWA HILLS, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A heavily-traveled road in Ottawa Hills is open again. The Talmadge Road Bridge was closed for a 45-day construction project, but that project has wrapped up.

Elwood Janney lives near the bridge and likes to ride his bike around the area. He says the closure has been an inconvenience, but he's glad it's open now.

"We think it's great," Janney said. "We can go down to see the bridge, see the fish and the deer around there. It's great being open; all the traffic's not backing up."

The Lucas County Engineer's Office did the design work and inspection for the project, which included repaving the bridge deck and painting underneath. Next up is the Evergreen Bridge.

"It's not as extensive as a project, so it won't be closed as long," said Village Manager Marc Thompson. "And it's not as busy of a street, so it won't have nearly the impact. We're making some progress in terms of getting our infrastructure back where it should be."

Thompson says construction on the Evergreen Bridge will begin within the next few weeks. It will be closed for about 30 days.
