DELTA, OH (Toledo News Now) -
A 57-year-old mother appeared in court Tuesday on charges she shot her teen son over the weekend.
Candis Sherman was arraigned on an attempted murder charge Tuesday, but her case was continued because she did not have an attorney present.
Police say they found a gun at the crime scene the day of the shooting, but still are not releasing what prompted the shooting. An investigation is ongoing. The sheriff has confirmed the boy's father had recently passed away and the mother had just moved back in with her son.
Officials say they received a call from the son about the shooting Sunday morning, and quickly responded.
"The scene had moved from the inside of the house to the outside. The victim had actually taken the gun from his mother and they were outside arguing, fighting over the gun when our deputy arrived," said Fulton County Sheriff Roy Miller.
The 15-year-old boy was taken to the hospital with at least three gunshot wounds. Sherman was taken to the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio, where she remains in custody.
If convicted, she could face three to 11 years behind bars.
On Tuesday, a judge ordered she be held without bail. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
