(WMC-TV) - Police in Selmer are hoping the public can help them solve a string of Wal-Mart thefts that stretch from Tennessee to Mississippi.
Investigators believe one man is responsible for the thefts -- and they say his photo was taken by surveillance cameras as he vandalized cash registers with a hammer when his master key wouldn't work in Selmer.
"We actually believe he's probably an employee or former employee because he's using a master key to unlock cash registers and getting cash out of them," says Lt. Roger Rickman, Selmer Police Department.
Police say the suspect also used a master key to steal cash from Wal-Mart stores in Jackson and Collierville, Tennessee, and in Booneville and Corinth, Mississippi.
Police say the registers at the Selmer Wal-Mart had new covers, which is why he had to use a hammer to get into them.
"He's taking cash. What he got in Selmer was just a few hundred bucks but the damage he did to the registers outweighs the amount of cash he took," Lt. Rickman added.
Police say the man walks into the store covering his face, then walks out the front door with the cash in hand.
If you know this suspected Wal-Mart thief, call Selmer police at (731) 645-7906.
