CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

19 Action News Reporter Scott Taylor has learned Cleveland Fire Chief Daryl McGinnis got a verbal reprimand from the City for threatening to stab firefighters in the neck.

Public Safety Director Martin Flask calls the comments conduct unbecoming an employee in public service and inappropriate for the workplace.

"I find your passion laudable and applaud your leadership; however, your choice of words in this situation were totally inappropriate and detracted from the message you were attempting to convey which was to inspire the rank and file to be more cognizant to the divisions' commitment to serve and protect the citizens of Cleveland," says Flask.

McGinnis made the threat on June 26 during roll call at Fire Station #10.

A Cleveland firefighter, who does not want to be named, told 19 Action News Reporter Scott Taylor McGinnis said, " If I have to start stabbing people in the throats to do what I need them to do, I'll do it."

At least two complaints were filed with the City of Cleveland.

One of the complaints came from Firefighter Jeff Livingston who has yet to be back at work since the Chief made the comment.

Livingston says he is not comfortable working in an environment where threats are condoned and advocated by the highest levels of authority within the city.
