WATERVILLE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Browning Masonic Community in Waterville is expanding its services and creating new jobs.

The assisted living facility held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday for its new memory care center, Pathways at Browning. The new center will not only bring a huge boost to the memory loss community in northwest Ohio, but to the local economy, as well.

The new state-of-the-art facility offers leading edge care for those suffering with Alzheimer's disease. The $4 million project brought more than 75 construction jobs to the area, and when all the rooms are filled, more than 25 new jobs will be available.

"Most of those are going to be in nursing or in what we call resident assistants," said David Subleski, president of Browning Masonic.

The 24-apartment building offers a kitchen and community area, private rooms, and even a hair salon.

"What we hope to do is raise the bar for other providers who are looking to get into memory care support within the community, that this may set a new platform for what they could do to provide this type of service for those suffering with the disease," Subleski said.

Salli Bollin, with the Alzheimer Association of Northwest Ohio, says the disease becomes very taxing on families who have loved ones with memory loss, and that's when the support of the community makes a difference.

"We know that we can't serve families alone, and so it's critical that we work collaboratively with organizations such as Browning to serve people who are living in our area," Bollin said.

Pathways at Browning will open by the end of August.
