SYLVANIA, OH (Toledo News Now) -
unexpected increase in state funding means one less ballot issue for Sylvania
voters this November.
Schools Superintendent Dr. Brad Rieger has been preparing district officials
and parents for a potential operating levy request this fall. Early state
funding numbers showed no increase in funding, and the district was predicting
a $3 million deficit at the end of fiscal year 2015.
the state is increasing Sylvania's funding by 6 percent this year and 10
percent next year, and the district is predicting a $600,000 budget surplus at
the end of 2015, instead.
money is a pleasant surprise, but Rieger says it won't solve all the district's
gives us a breather, at least through 2013," he said. "The deficit is pushed
back until July of 2016, thus not the need to be on the ballot, and we'll have to
look at things in 2014."
