TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Libbey High School graduate and Purple Heart recipient Stephanie Morris is recovering in a Maryland hospital after she was seriously injured in Afghanistan. Now one local organization is raising money to help her mom visit her.

There was food, fun and music at Mecca Temple #43 to raise money for Morris. The fish fry fundraiser was held Thursday afternoon into the evening.

Morris was injured last week when a bomb exploded on her base in Afghanistan, breaking her leg and crushing her foot. It happened just two days before she was going to celebrate her birthday.

"Stephanie wants to stay in the army," said Relda Bates, Morris's mother. "She's a free-spirited person, so she's doing better than her mother."

Organizers of the fundraiser say they'll be at the Mecca Temple at 1343 Avondale in Toledo all day Thursday.

Donations can also be made directly to any Woodforest National Bank, care of Relda Bates.
