College students help Adrian community thrive

ADRIAN, MI (Toledo News Now) -

Growth at two local colleges is having a positive impact on the Adrian community.

Enrollment has doubled at Adrian College over the last five years, and the number of students enrolled at Siena Heights University's main campus is the largest it's been in 10-15 years.

And as these schools expand, Adrian Chamber of Commerce President Ann Hughes says it's only bringing good things to the area.

"It is exciting," Hughes said. "More students, more jobs created. Their payroll increases, they support local businesses."

People in the area are already noticing the difference.

"I work at the Croswell, and really, we have seen an influx of students at our events," said Jere Righter.

But it's not just business that the schools bring.

"The resources that they bring bring so much richness to the community," Hughes said. "There's sporting events, there's music and theatre and art shows."

"It kind of creates a vibrancy and excitement of the people who live down here and are a part of Adrian," said Righter.
