(WMC-TV) - The Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County is hoping to find some of its long-timers homes. There are a number of animals that have been living at the humane society for quite some time, all for different reasons.
Each week, we will update this list with a new dog and cat, who are both "long-timers" at the humane society but are hoping to find permanent homes.
Each pet featured in the "long-timer" campaign will be offered one free obedience class.
Augusta is a shy 2.5-year-old spayed female mixed breed dog. She was surrendered by her owner after she had severe complications from a pregnancy; she lost all the puppies and developed an infection. She is healthy now and ready to go home! Augusta would like a home with no small children. She spent some time at home with one of our volunteers, who says she did great, got along well with her other dogs, and was an absolute joy to have around. Augusta has been overlooked because she hasn't learned how to show her true self in her kennel; she may get scared and bark at passersby. Will you be the special person to give her a chance to shine outside her kennel? Augusta's adoption fee is $100 and includes her being spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and it also includes one obedience class with the HSMSC animal trainer.
Looking for someone to keep you company? Come and meet Immanuel, a neutered male 2.5-year-old white and orange cat! He came to Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County last Christmas and has been waiting since then for his forever home. He's a pretty laid-back guy once you get to know him. He likes comfy cat beds, a nice warm room, and a relaxed lifestyle. He enjoys other cats, as long as they don't try to bully him; he doesn't stand up for himself, he just hides in his bed if he gets nervous. All he wants is the chance to be part of your life and share the best things with you! Immanuel's adoption fee is $100 and includes him being neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. He is currently at the cat adoption center at PetSmart near Poplar/240.
Ursula is a 5-year-old mixed breed. The humane society thinks she's part shepherd, part clown! She is a happy, silly, enthusiastic, middle-aged girl who has a lot of living left to do! She enjoys long walks and chasing birds and squirrels, but then loves to unwind with a good back massage and belly rub. She'll even thank you with a slobbery kiss! She loves treats (but needs to work on keeping her girlish figure) and knows how to sit. She is deaf in one ear and we think she'd probably do best in a home with no small children and no other dogs, but she does occasionally get along with other dogs, so if you're interested and you have a dog, please still inquire. Ursula's adoption fee has already been paid! She is spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, and microchipped. Her adoption also includes one free session with our dog trainer.
Joey is a 7-year-old neutered male black and white cat with green eyes who has been with the humane society for about a year. He's just an all-American Joe! He looks like he might have played football in his teenage years, but now he's more of a couch potato. He still likes playing every once in a while as long as he gets some affection and downtime between games.
Joey is very attentive and responsive. He is cat-selective; he may be fine with submissive and/or female cats.
His adoption fee is $75 and includes him being neutered, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped.
Lidia is a 5-year-old black lab mix who came to us in December 2012. She had to have her front right leg amputated, but she gets around great and has a lot of energy. She recently had her heartworm treatment, so we hope that she will be cleared as heartworm negative soon!
She is looking for a home with no children, and she can be selective about the dogs she befriends. Lidia loves to play in the water and would love a home with a kiddie pool! She is very playful and friendly and would love to be your one and only.
Her adoption fee is $75 and includes her being spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and also includes a session with our trainer.
Minka is a 1.5-year-old spayed female black cat. A good Samaritan brought her to HSMSC with a severely injured leg; it had to be amputated, but now she gets around great on three legs.
With a start like that, it took her a little while to warm up to people, but now she loves attention, and will flop over, roll around, and scoot closer to you for more love!
Minka is selective about what cats she is friends with. Her adoption fee is $100 and includes her being spayed, up to date on vaccines and microchipped.
Vito is a sweet older gentleman who loves taking leisurely walks and talking about old times on the front porch. This 7-year-old staffordshire mix is wonderful on the leash and he has an easy, calm demeanor that makes everyone fall in love with him.
He had a hard life before he got to the humane society and now lives with some health issues. He takes meds for joint problems and daily probiotics for digestive issues. He has not been successful at making friends with the other dogs he has met thus far, so needs to be an only dog. But that's ok, because Vito has all the love you'll ever need.
Will you be the one who can give Vito the special attention he needs and deserves? His adoption fee is $75 and includes him being neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and it also includes a session with our staff trainer.
Grizzly is a 2-year-old neutered male black and white cat. He went to the humane society in July 2012 when its ambulance service picked him up, emaciated and with bite wounds, at the Memphis Grizzlies House at St. Jude. He is healthy now and ready to find his forever family. Grizzly loves other cats and would love to go to a home with another cat or two to pal around with, and he would probably do well with a respectful, cat-friendly dog. He is very cuddly and loves to be loved. He also loves to play with toys and have attention from just about everyone.
Winston, a 4.5-year-old, 45 pound housetrained mixed breed dog, is blind and has seasonal allergies. He was brought emaciated to HSMSC after an early life of fending for himself on the streets. After a lengthy recovery period, Winston found a home with a very sweet lady, but ultimately her health failed, and Winston sadly came back to us. Winston would do best in a home with no small children and no other pets, and an adopter who will be patient and allow Winston to bloom and get comfortable at his own pace, and comfort him when he is scared during storms. He knows how to sit, walks nicely on leash, and takes treats gently.
Baby is a 12.5-year-old spayed brown tabby cat. She spent most of her life in a happy home until her owner died. The owner's family brought Baby to the humane society in January 2012. She may be an older kitty, but she's got a lot of life left. She would love nothing more than to go home and curl up on the couch. Baby doesn't want any feline siblings; she wants to be your one and only.
$75 adoption fee includes spay, vaccines, microchip
