MASON, OH (FOX19) -

The longest inverted steel roller coaster in the world will make its debut at Kings Island in April of 2014. It will be called "Banshee".

Park officials unveiled the new world-record breaking ride on Thursday evening. Banshee will send riders screaming along 4,124 feet of track and seven inversions at speeds up to 68 miles per hour.

The ride lasts a total of 2 thrilling minutes and 40 chilling seconds long.

It's also the first female-inspired thrill ride at a Cedar Fair Entertainment amusement park, which owns and operates Kings Island.

Park officials say the ride begins with a lift taking riders up to the maximum height of 167 feet.  After plunging down 150 feet, riders will go through a dive loop, followed by a vertical loop, zero gravity roller, two batwing inversions, a second vertical loop and a 170-foot long heartline finale.

A release sent Thursday after the new coaster's reveal states, "Two of the most unique features about Banshee are the massive size of every loop, and unlike other roller coasters, the top speed isn't reached until halfway through the ride's course."

Passengers will be seated in cars four across. Officials say a total of three trains, each with eight cars, will send approximately 1,650 riders through Banshee's madness each hour.

This is not the first time the Banshee names has been invoked by Cedar Fair, Kings Island's parent company.

Back in 1995, Cedar Point announced plans for a stand up coaster named "The Banshee" but the name was changed to "The Mantis" when Cedar Point realized the full negative connotations of the word banshee.

The banshee is a female spirit in Irish mythology, usually seen as an omen of death and a messenger from the Otherworld.

Banshee will be the 15th roller coaster at Kings Island.

The new ride is set to open in April 2014.
