Three Middle Tennessee State University football players have been dismissed from the team after they were arrested earlier this month in connection to an alleged case of domestic assault.
Investigators say they have video of defensive tackle James De'Angelo "J.D." Jones choking his girlfriend last November while two teammates, cornerback Rodney O'Neal and defensive tackle Marcus Robinson, watched and did nothing.
Jones was then charged with two counts of domestic aggravated assault July 20, while Robinson and O'Neal were charged with two counts of aiding and abetting.
MTSU police say the video allegedly shows a woman pleading with Jones to stop choking her first with his hand, then his arm from behind.
The woman told university police she was assaulted by Jones numerous times dating back to October 2012.
At one point, she says, Jones came to her apartment asking for money to buy marijuana. According to a police report, when she said no, he began choking her and grabbed a pink baseball bat and begin hitting her on the legs.
She still refused to give him money, so he allegedly took the bat from another football player and hit her so hard it left bruises and injuries to her back and legs.
The woman was able to hit Jones in the groin and he let go, according to the police report, but he then picked up a football and threw it at her face, causing her to fall to the ground.
Jones played in all 12 games in 2012 for the Blue Raiders, finishing the year with 14 tackles, including one tackle for a loss, and a quarterback hurry. O'Neal and Robinson did not play in any games last year.
Head coach Rick Stockstill said the three football players are no longer with the program. In a statement, Stockstill said:
"I have decided to dismiss J.D. Jones, Rodney O'Neal, and Marcus Robinson from our football program. I took my time in making this decision, as I wanted to make sure I gathered as much information as possible.
"Their actions do not reflect upon all the good surrounding our football program. Every choice a person makes has consequences, good or bad. And unfortunately, their choice has led me to dismiss them from the team."
