PORTAGE TWP. (Toledo News Now) -
A 12 year-old boy is dead after being hit by a train.
The Hancock County Sheriff's Office says it happened on County Road 107, east of County Road 140 in Portage Township.
An investigation shows just before 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, the Fort Wayne, Indiana boy was sleeping on the tracks, when a Norfolk Southern train heading east hit him.
The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Sheriff's Office says the boy and two friends had run away from Fort Wayne, Indiana earlier in the day. The three had apparently ridden a train car from the Fort Wayne area to Fostoria, then walked down the tracks into Portage Township.
The two other juveniles went to find help while the boy laid down on the tracks to rest, the Sheriff's Office said.
