High school football has finally returned. Two-a-day practices are
beginning for everyone in Ohio.
At Central Catholic, the defending Division II champions are in
uncharted territory as they move to Division III.
They lost quite a few players from last year: 34 seniors and a total of
11 starters. But the Irish still have Notre Dame-commit DeShone Kizer, and a
"Everybody talks about how tough it is repeating, but this isn't the
same team," said Head Coach Greg Dempsey. "It's a different team, with
different kids, different leaders. We lost some great kids last year, [but] we
have some great kids coming up and some great players returning."
Quarterback Kizer says this year is a chance to prove themselves all
"We're gonna go make another name for ourselves," he said. "I know last
year had a great season, ended up with a ring. I'm happy for that, but now we're
coming out. We're a new team with new goals."
The Central Catholic Irish open the season Saturday, August 31 against
De La Salle of Warren, Michigan.
