St. John’s football team has more chemistry this year

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The St. John's Jesuit Titans are coming off a down year. Their football team saw only four wins last season.

They have another massive front line this year, with the average weight between 250 and 275 pounds.

They've got the skill players, too. Senior quarterback Nolan Silberhorn, and last year's understudy Brogan Roback.

"I'm real excited," Silberhorn said. "I think we put a lot of work in on the off-season to get ready for this upcoming season, and I think we're ready to go."

That work began in January with weight-lifting, then June camp and summer conditioning.

Although three players from last year's team have gone on to Division I scholarships, this team might have better balance and chemistry.

"The line I keep using is, ‘It's amazing how much we can accomplish when nobody cares or gets the credit,'" said Coach Doug Pearson. "As long as everybody does their job, we'll be fine."

"We have good chemistry on both sides of the ball," said senior wide receiver Joe Pool. "Last year, we didn't have any chemistry at all. This year, we're just playing for each other."

As for their goals this year:

"Our goal this year [is the same] as every year," Pearson said. "We're gonna try and compete for a track championship, and hopefully make the state playoffs."
