TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

While Steven King was arraigned in Lucas County Common Pleas court Thursday morning on felony obstruction of justice charges, the case of missing Elaina Steinfurth took a new turn.

An assistant Lucas County prosecutor says the case is now being investigated as a homicide.

King was arrested July 22 in connection to the case of missing Elaina. He, as well as Elaina's mother, Angela Steinfurth, is charged with obstructing justice. Steinfurth and King were in a relationship at the time of Elaina's disappearance, but have since broken up.

Judge Ruth Ann Franks ordered King to remain in jail on $250,000 bond.

A cousin says the family has a lot to take in now that the case is being investigated as a homicide, especially Elaina's father.

"Elaina's dad - he's very upset, extremely upset. He needs some closure. It's the first he's heard it's being investigated as a homicide. Gonna find Elaina. Not that it has been proven. But I think this has really put a damper on him as of today," said Ginger Smith, a member of the Steinfurth family.

The judge continued King's arraignment until Aug. 15.

Meanwhile, the family continues to hold vigils for baby Elaina every week. If you know any information that could help find her, you are encouraged to call police.
