TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Toledo police are investigating after a physical altercation turns into a homicide.
Police say on Saturday, Joseph Meyers, 53, and Houston Hart, 49, got into a physical altercation over pocket change at the Toledo Gospel Rescue Mission, where they both resided. Witnesses in the police report said Hart picked up Meyers and "threw him down the stairs and began punching and kicking" him repeatedly.
Meyers sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. He died Wednesday just before 6 p.m.
"This is a crime that didn't need to happen," said Heffernan.
Hart was already in custody for the incident and charged with felonious assault. Now, police expect murder charges to be filed.
"We now are preceding on to the grand jury phase of this case, where we're going to be presenting murder charges against Mr. Hart," said Heffernan.
