(RNN) - A Miami man has reportedly admitted to killing his wife and posting a picture of her dead body on Facebook.

Derek Medina, 31, turned himself into the Miami-Dade police after claiming to have shot and killed his wife, Jennifer Alfonso, reported the Miami Herald.

A confession to the murder appeared on Medina's personal Facebook page. It read: "I'm going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife. Love you guys. Miss you guys. Take care. Facebook people you'll see me in the news."

Before the confession appeared on Medina's Facebook page, a gruesome photo of Alfonso, dead and mangled. Above the photo says, "RIP Jennifer Alfonso."

Facebook friends commented on the photo, asking "What happened?"

After the photo was posted, a message was posted saying Medina was fed-up with being physically abused by Alfonso.

"My wife was punching me and I'm not going to stand anymore with the abuse so I did what I did. Hope u understand me," the message read.

CBS Miami says Alfonso's 10-year-old daughter from a previous relationship was in the home at the time of the murder, but she was unharmed.

Medina has been charged with first-degree murder.

However, based on his Facebook statements and a statement by his father, Medina is likely to plead self-defense.

According to an arrest report obtained by the Miami Herald, Medina and Alfonso got into an argument, at which point Medina went to an upstairs bedroom and grabbed his gun. When he went downstairs, he claims, Alfonso had a knife. After he disarmed her, she began punching and kicking him - and that's when the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Medina shot her, according to the report.

Medina's father, Derek Medina, Sr. repeated his son's claims, telling the Miami Herald that Alfonso was shot only after she got physical.

Medina has an extensive online presence, including a Youtube channel with videos of him punching and kicking bags in a gym, singing along to a Bill Withers song, and meeting NBA star Ray Allen of the Miami Heat.

He is also a self-published writer with several books online. One title is Humans Who Are Gifted and Can See The Supernatural Spirit Ghost World We Live in Called Ghost Haunted Adventures.

According to the book's description, the story is about ghost-hunting in various locales around the country and describes a time when his wife was physically assaulted by a supernatural being.
