NORTHSIDE, OH (FOX19) -

Emergency crews were called to an accident involving a semi-truck Thursday evening in Northside.

According to Cincinnati Fire District Three, fire department officials at the nearby fire house on Blue Rock Avenue were just sitting down for dinner when the power went out.

Moments later, they were dispatched to a report of a semi-truck into a building.

Authorities say it happened at the intersection of Colerain and West Fork Road just after 5:30 p.m.

A truck driver unfamiliar with the area was going southbound on Colerain Avenue. Headed down a hill, the driver wouldn't stop and tried to veer onto the sidewalk to avoid hitting any cars.

Police say the semi-truck clipped a car, hit a utility pole and crashed into a building at the intersection. The truck ended up being wedged between the building and utility poles carrying high voltage transmission lines.

Police say the truck driver was removed from the vehicle by witnesses and was not injured.

Debris from the truck flew off and hit another car. The drive was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The truck was carrying 42,000 pounds of paper goods.

Several homes lost power in the area as a result of the crash. Duke Energy crews were called to the scene, but had to wait for the truck to be towed in order to connect power.

Fire officials say the accident resulted in additional calls for service associated to the power outage, including people trapped on stalled elevators and fire alarm activations.
