BGSU wants everyone to ‘paint the town’ for football

BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Bowling Green State University is trying something a little different to get people pumped up for the kickoff of football season. They're asking everyone to join them in painting the town orange and brown.

Everyone is invited to stop by the Stroh Center ticket office to pick up an orange light bulb.

The idea started when Associate Athletics Director Mary Ellen Gillespie went to Indianapolis for a Colts game. She noticed a lot of blue lighting, and thought that was a great way to get the community involved.

Residents can swap out porch or outdoor light bulbs with orange ones, or even decorate their home, business or dorm room. There will be a contest, and pictures can be submitted to the BGSU Facebook or Twitter account (@bgsu), with the hashtag ‘#paintthetown'.

"We're going to have some secret judges going around and looking at homes and offices, and then we'll be giving out some prizes," said Gillespie. "Some of those prizes are a suite at a football game, some premium seats, sideline gear that our coaches are going to be wearing. So we're really, really excited about it."

Anyone in northwest Ohio is welcome to get involved, as well as long-distance alumni. The contest runs until the Tuesday before the home opener against Tulsa on August 29.
