TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Toledo Public Schools has a new partnership with TARTA.
TPS will now house 24 of its buses at the main TARTA garage on Central Avenue. Not only will this help save the district money, but it will provide a more efficient service to students in central and north Toledo.
All TPS buses used to be housed on Hill Avenue, so some had to drive nine miles before reaching their first stop. With a different location for buses, TPS will be able to save money on fuel and maintenance costs, plus reduce travel time.
Leaders say they do not have an exact estimate on how much money this will save the district, but hope to know by the end of next school year.
"What we would do is a cost analysis in the first year to give good stats, in regards to the savings. But obviously when you're bringing buses, and you're moving, and you're transporting, and moving in a closer home base, then obviously you can expect some in fuel costs and etc." said Dr. Romules Durant, interim superintendent for TPS.
