Wounded Veterans Benefit held in Bryan

BRYAN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

In 2012, the inaugural Wounded Veterans Benefit in Bryan raised $6,000.

The Alliance Church organized the benefit, and through a partnership with the local VFW, that money was donated to the Williams County Veteran Services to help wounded veterans.

Money raised from this year's event will do the same.

"This kind of thing helps me sleep better at night," said Mary Oliver, director of the Williams County Veteran Services. "Because I know if I wake up tomorrow, and I hear a vet has ‘XYZ' problem, I have another resource."

The event is more than just a fundraiser for county veterans. For many, it's a way to say thank you, to tell their story, and learn more about services available to veterans.

A booth with information on a number of services was on display at the benefit.

"We work with World War II vets, and I've had World War II vets in my office every single week saying, ‘I didn't even know that existed,'" said Oliver. "So no matter how much advertising you do, and outreach, any extra thing you can to get it out there, you might touch that one person who really needs something."
