MASON, OH (FOX19) -

Rafael Nadal overcame American John Isner is straight sets on Sunday to become the Western & Southern Open Champion.

Nadal's 7-6 (10), 7-6 (7) win gives the Spaniard his first championship win in Cincinnati.

A grueling first set lasted just over an hour. Although the 6-foot-10 American was dominant on his serve, Nadal was not going away. Nadal was able to outrun Isner, beating him 10-8 in the tie-break.

The two exchanged blows into the second set, once again holding serve until the tie-break. Nadal did not receive a single break point throughout the entire match.

Nadal, currently ranked No. 3 in the world, is now 4-0 against Isner.

Following a first-round loss at the 2013 Wimbledon Championships, Nadal took a seven week break. He returned to the hard courts in August winning in Montreal for his 25th Master's Title before winning in Cincinnati.

Isner, who was unseeded coming into the tournament, fell from No. 20 to 22 this week and will return to the top 20 after his run in Cincinnati.

In his path to the finals, Isner beat three consecutive top-10 players for the first time in his career with notable wins over Novak Djokovic and Juan Martin Del Potro. His run in Cincinnati gave Isner his second Masters 1000 series finals appearance.
