LENAWEE COUNTY, MI (Toledo News Now) -
effort to make fresh fruits and vegetables available to people in Lenawee
County has gone mobile.
veggie-mobile is making its rounds in the county to make fresh produce more
accessible and affordable to residents. It acts like a traveling farmers'
market, bringing fresh and local produce to the community.
leaders at Promedica say the obesity rate is higher in Lenawee County than it
is in the rest of the state, so this is one way they're working to change that.
areas in this country considered food desert, where there is not enough fruits
and vegetables, even though we live in a farming community," said Anne Barton,
director of quality resources at Promedica. "This is a way to get vegetables
from the farmers locally, and make them available at affordable prices."
