SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -
group of students in Springfield Township are taking action to bring a new
skate park to their area.
junior high and high school students approached township trustees at a meeting
Monday night about the park. They say they would like a skate park to attract a
league of skaters from across Ohio and the country.
trustees put the ball in the students' court, saying if they can organize fundraisers
and raise grant money, then the township will provide a space for the park,
such as Lincoln Green Park.
Andy Glenn says he was excited to see the kids take action. He says doing it this
way will give the students ownership and pride.
these kids are so motivated that they are willing to go out and identify some
grant funding for the project, or raise some money on their own, that tells us
that there's definitely a need for this in the community, and there's
definitely a segment of the community that would be served by this," Glenn
students are looking into a national foundation and other ways to earn money.
Trustees say they will donate space for the students to hold fundraisers.
