JERUSALEM TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

After a 3-month appeal, Harold Stanton has been reinstated as Jerusalem Township Fire Chief.

Stanton was fired in March. Trustees voted to terminate Stanton, saying they warned him several times to not allow former firefighter Jim Gray to participate in any emergency calls. The trustees claim Stanton continued to do so, but Stanton argues that he told Gray not to participate, but says Gray didn't follow directions.

On Monday, a Lucas County judge reinstated Stanton as fire chief. According the court documents, the judge decided the board's decision was illegal, because it failed to comply with the township's personnel policies and procedures manual, as well as unconstitutional, because trustees served in multiple roles in making the decision.

What's the most exciting part about being back?

"Just being able to get back and work with the people out here, and protect the citizens and do what the citizens need done out here," Stanton said.

Stanton is currently waiting on word from the trustees as to how they wish to proceed.
