WHITEHOUSE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A local wildlife rehabilitation center needs help as the number of animals coming in – and the costs associated with caring for them – continues to increase.

So far, Nature's Nursery has taken in more than 2,000 animals just this year.

"A lot of animals that are coming in need a lot of extra medical care," said Director Laura Zitzelberger. "We seem to have a lot more expense this year than we have in the past."

Zitzelberger says Nature's Nursery is funded through grants, fundraisers and donations. She's hoping the community will come together now to ramp up donations and allow the organization to continue nurturing and returning animals to the wild, as well as educating the public.

"If we could increase our membership and know that we have a larger income…that would be absolutely amazing," she said.

There will be an open house on September 8 for visitors to meet some of the wildlife and participate in a variety of activities. Click here for more information.
