Time running out for Rossford to opt out of TARTA

ROSSFORD, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Time is running out for Rossford to opt out of TARTA services.

Hundreds of signatures were collected by Citizen's Choice, a group of residents who want to put the issue on the November ballot, and they claim they turned all their paperwork in on time.

According to the Wood County Board of Elections, however, the filing deadline was August 7, but signatures were not verified until August 12. Now it is up to the Wood County Prosecutor to determine if the issue can be placed on the ballot.

If the issue doesn't make it on the ballot this November, it likely never will. The law allowing communities to opt out expires at the end of the year.

Residents who depend on public transportation say they hope it never makes the ballot.

"As an elderly person, it's ridiculous to take something so handy away from somebody," said Norman Falls.

Falls rides his bike to run errands, but needs the bus service to take trips further away.

So far, there's no word on if voters will see the issue this November.
