A major expansion will be made at Dollywood, a theme park near Knoxville that is owned by Dolly Parton. The $300 million expansion will be the first since the park opened in 1986.
Dollywood President Craig Ross announced the expansion, highlighting new shows, a new roller coaster, and a new 300 room family-friendly resort hotel.
"Providing us with another opportunity to bring families closer together in a unique and authentic way to deliver what we're known for, which is incredible guest experience," said Ross.
The Wednesday announcement brought Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam to Dollywood.
The hotel will be called Dollywood's DreamMore Resort. The roller coaster will be called the Fire Chaser Express.
"I never ride the rides, you know, and I certainly ain't going to ride the Fire Chaser Express 'cause I told them I couldn't afford to," said Parton. "My hair or my bra on fire, it would take four days to put that out."
The $300 million in improvements will happen over the next 10 years, with the new roller coaster opening next year and the hotel opening in 2015.
