TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
Construction is underway on a $10.4 million project to
build 40 new homes in central Toledo.
The homes will be in the neighborhood between Mercy St.
Vincent Medical Center and Scott High School. The Legacy Homes Project is a
partnership with NeighborWorks Toledo Region and Mercy's Cherry Street Legacy
The new houses are being built in an area where plenty of
vacant house demolition has occurred in recent years.
"All of the land we're using came from the Lucas County
Land Bank program, and it was made accessible to us for a very low price," said
William Farnsel with NeighborWorks Toledo Region.
Neighbors are hoping it'll be a major shot in the arm for
"I think it's great, some new families come in and
hopefully it'll change the neighborhood, change the atmosphere," said Ronald

Once built, the homes will be available for rent with an
option to buy after 15 years.
"The houses we're building here will be very energy
