Keeping students safe in school safety zones

Posted: Updated:
SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

School safety zones play a crucial role in the well being of children, but drivers can still be distracted.

Toledo News Now's Amanda St. Hilaire was at Holloway Elementary School with what parents and drivers need to know about school safety zones.

Here are a few tips from the National Center for Safer Routes to School:

  • Dress your children in bright clothes so drivers can see them.
  • If it's dark, wear reflective gear and bring flashlights.
  • Talk to your kids about walking across the street, not running.
  • Make sure they're walking in groups. Drivers are more likely to see them from far away, and then have more time to slow down.
