Lenawee County prepping for flu season

Posted: Updated:
LENAWEE COUNTY, MI (Toledo News Now) -

It's that time of year again to start protecting yourself from the flu, and Lenawee County health officials say they're already prepping for flu shot clinics.

Health officials say the sooner you can get a flu shot the better. It takes two weeks for your body to build up an immunity after getting the shot, so health officials in Lenawee County say they will be starting their shot clinics in September this year.

That's earlier than it has been in previous years, and they're hoping people are protected for the upcoming flu season.

"When people cough sneeze, that's how it spreads so once that starts occurring in closed quarters as the weather starts getting colder and people have their windows shut we'll probably start to see some cases," said Lenawee County Health Officer Patsy Bourgeois.

Bourgeois also says it's important to remember that the shot is a "killed virus" and you cannot get the flu from the immunization.
