TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Thousands of people showed up in Washington DC Wednesday to remember the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's ‘I have a dream' speech.

In Toledo, dozens gathered on the University of Toledo campus to reenact the march. The walk commemorated King's famous speech, in which he hoped for racial divides and injustices to come to an end.

A recording of the speech was also played at the event, and several community leaders spoke to those in attendance.

"It's important that this event is taking place, because we never want to forget where we've come from," said Randall Parker. "We never want to forget those who've paved the way for us to have the opportunities and advantages that we have right now."

Organizers said they wanted everyone to leave with this message: The dream of Dr. King didn't die with him.
